Suitability certifications for ship transport vehicles
The suitability certifications for means of transporting ships can be requested by the Ship Command through the shipping agency, such as:
- suitability of water tanks for human use (drinking water tanks);
- suitability of medicine boxes;
- on-board pharmacy suitability (tab “b” and “c”);
- sanitization and/or exemption from sanitization;
- endorsement of the on-board drug register in the cases foreseen;
- “DIA” notification and verification/registration for the operation of kitchens and catering services on board ships and vessels, without issuing certification (replaces the health authorizations relating to the operation of kitchens and the administration of food substances on board ships ).
Issuance occurs upon request, based on intervals defined by law.
Documents to present
In case of renewal of the certification of suitability for means of transport of ships, the following documents are required:
- copy of the previous expiring certificate,
- other documentation upon request of the USMAF, if deemed necessary.
In case of release/renewal for drinking water crates, also attach:
- a certificate of chemical-physical and microbiological analysis of water, issued by an accredited laboratory in the 30 days preceding the expiry date of the existing certificate;
- extract/declaration of the last cleaning of the on-board crates.
The extension of the expiry of the sanitation exemption certificate, which can be issued one-off and in exceptional cases, involves the payment of the same fee due for the issue of a new certificate.
The documentation relating to the “DIA“, in addition to the request made in the NSIS-USMAF application, must be presented directly at the counter, at the USMAF-SASN competent for the territory with respect to the compartment in which the vehicle is registered.
Communication of outcome
Relatively to:
- drinking water boxes
- medicine boxes and on-board pharmacy
since July 2018 the submitter of the request can download them with “handwritten signature” directly from the public area of the NSIS -USMAF application).
The other certificates are delivered by hand at the counter.
Release times
After inspection by USMAF-SASN personnel, except for the time required to comply with any requirements.
Costs
The amount of the tax to be paid appears automatically when entering the request in the NSIS-USMAF application. The cost of the inspection staff mission must be added to the cost, which will be communicated before the certificate is issued.
