Italian Port Days 2021

The initiative is part of the national campaign “opening port life and culture to people”, thus promoting integration between ports and their communities.

“The port is an economic driver for the territory and the entire logistics ecosystem, besides being a workplace. It is capable to capture business opportunities, and represents a place of inclusion and cultural exchange at the same time”.
These are the key messages of the Port Days of the Ports of Venice and Chioggia, that are organised in cooperation with the City of Venice, the Harbourmaster, the Venezia Port Community and the International Propeller Club as part of the Italian Port Days Campaign – launched by the National Port Association (Assoporti) and due to be held from Monday 4 to Sunday 10 October. A full week programme of initiatives and events to tell and show a versatile port, in such a glorious moment for Venice – 1600 years since its foundation are celebrated.

The Programme

Monday 4 October – 4.00 pm, seminar “En route for equal opportunities in the regional port cluster” focusing on objective 5 of the UN 2030 Agenda (gender equality) in the maritime-port field – live streaming on the Port of Venice YouTube channel. The event will feature six testimonials dealing  with different maritime/logistic/port fields .

Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 October, from 14.00 to 20.00, all residents in Venice (provided with green pass and identity card) will be allowed to visit free of charge “Venice StArt”, as the contemporary art exhibition set up inside “ARTERMINAL” in the heart of the waterfront. The exhibition is managed by Mario Mazzoleni as the Artistic Director of Art Event Mazzoleni and involves over 100 artists and 600 works of different styles, from painting to photography, from sculpture to installations.

Thursday 7 and Friday 8 October: on board tour carried out in cooperation with the Harbourmaster to high school students aspiring to get professional in the maritime/logistic/port field for a total of 180 students involved.

Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 October guided tours to “Venezia Heritage Tower”, the well-known cooling tower at the entrance of the commercial terminals. Participants will be shown the intangible heritage kept in the port, made up of numerous original patents which have been adopted by all over the world. At a height of 60 meters, visitors will observe the beating heart of the commercial and industrial port and learn the evolution of the relationship between production and logistics.
