On Friday 16 October, the “Piccoli Marinai” educational project is back for its second year as part of the 13th edition of the Venice Hospitality Challenge. Aimed at younger generations, the initiative introduces children to the sea, sailing and Venice’s maritime traditions.
Promoted by the Yacht Club Venezia as part of the event, the initiative will involve around 90 schoolchildren in a day of activities, including educational workshops, sessions exploring marine-related topics and visits to the boats taking part in the race.
The North Adriatic Sea Port Authority will contribute with a workshop led by one of its representatives, delivered with the support of Port Educational, the Authority’s educational platform designed to introduce younger generations to the port world, its activities and the professions associated with the maritime sector.
The Authority’s involvement in the project forms part of its collaboration with Vela S.p.A. Through this partnership, the Authority also supports the event by providing financial assistance and the necessary authorisations for the race, scheduled to take place in Venetian waters on Saturday 17 October.
Now in its 13th edition, the Venice Hospitality Challenge will bring sixteen maxi yachts to the San Marco Basin, reaffirming its place as a prominent event on the sailing calendar and an opportunity to celebrate the close ties between Venice and its maritime heritage. This year’s main innovation will be a simultaneous start, with all boats setting off together at 2.30 pm on Saturday. The race will offer spectators a striking view from the city’s waterfront and along the Giudecca Canal.
Through its support for the event and its participation in the Piccoli Marinai project, the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority combines the promotion of sailing and Venice’s maritime heritage with a tangible commitment to raising awareness of port culture, helping bring younger generations closer to the sea and to the many activities that take place within the port.
