Today, the construction of the new renewable hydrogen plant by the Sapio Group was inaugurated at Porto Marghera, in the presence of all the authorities who contributed to the project at national, regional, and local levels.
In addition to the President of the Sapio Group, Alberto Dossi, greetings were delivered by Minister for the PNRR, Tommaso Foti, representing the Government, Roberto Marcato, Councillor for the Veneto Region, Luigi Brugnaro, the Mayor of Venice, and Fulvio Lino di Blasio, President of the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority.
Di Blasio emphasised that the Port Authority is always alongside companies that make the Porto Marghera industrial-logistical-port hub vibrant, dynamic, and increasingly innovative and sustainable. In practical terms, this means supporting businesses in obtaining financing, speeding up authorisation processes, maximising the simplifications enabled by the Special Economic Zone (ZLS), promoting the new offer to potential stakeholders, and, more generally, enhancing the accessibility and performance of the entire Porto Marghera port infrastructure for the benefit of every company operating there.
Domenico Russo, the plant director, provided a technical explanation of the electrolyser and gave an overview of the 4.59 MW plant, which will be powered by photovoltaic panels. The plant will have a production capacity of approximately 1,000 Nm³/h of green hydrogen (equivalent to about 0.09 tonnes per hour). The infrastructure will be built on a decommissioned area already equipped with electrical connections and nitrogen network access, with operations expected to commence by July 2026.
Finally, the laying of the first stone took place at the entrance to the construction site.
