“Sea Day” at the Arsenale: Students Discover the Port and Maritime Careers

The Arsenale in Venice hosts the Sea Day (Giornata del mare), an initiative established to bring younger generations closer to maritime culture, environmental protection, and career opportunities related to the sea. The event brings together hundreds of students from across the Veneto region for a day of educational activities, workshops, and demonstrations. The North Adriatic Sea Port Authority is one of the key participants in the event, represented by its Secretary General, Roberto Mantovanelli, who in his opening remarks the importance of bringing younger generations closer to the port environment and maritime careers. He emphasized how knowledge of the port and its activities is a fundamental building block for developing awareness, skills, and future opportunities. For the occasion, the Authority is also offering a workshop dedicated to primary schools, focused on the Port Educational project. Through an interactive multimedia tool, children can explore the port environment and discover, in a simple and engaging way, the many professions connected to the sea, logistics, and port operations. The experience continues with a creative, hands-on session designed to stimulate imagination, curiosity, and collaboration. This participatory moment allows younger students to reflect on what they have learned, learning more about the port system and the value of the people whose work keeps it running every day. Supporting the activities is Faro De Faris, the mascot dedicated to younger audiences, who recently celebrated its first birthday and helps make the experience even more engaging. Participation in National Sea Day confirms the Authority’s commitment to promoting maritime culture and raising awareness among younger generations through educational initiatives that strengthen the connection between the port, schools, and the local community.
