The Port of Venice is the only port in Italy to have the possibility of transporting goods using the river method.

An efficient, safe and sustainable method

The ports of Venice and Chioggia are the only ones in Italy to also be river ports and to allow the forwarding of goods through the internal navigation network that runs along the Po Valley. This is a great opportunity also recognized by the European Union (which considers the Lombardy-Veneto river section a component of the Mediterranean corridor of Ten-T networks). An internal navigation line connects Venice to Mantua 365 days a year through the Fissero Tartaro Canalbianco navigable canal and there is the possibility of continuing to Cremona. Furthermore, using the Po, you can reach Piacenza 265 days a year. The river mode is advantageous from an environmental point of view, in fact, a barge capable of transporting 60 containers per trip translates into 60 fewer trucks on the roads for each single trip – leading to a saving in terms of CO 2 emissions equal to 60 .31 tons compared to road transport. The river mode proves to be an efficient and safe mode, river transport has certain times, also thanks to the operators of the port of Mantua and Cremona who are highly qualified.
