Refurbishment and development of the former “Monopolies and Tobacco” compound for port use
The former Monopolies and Tobacco compound is located at the Molo dei Sali in the commercial port of Venice – Marghera, on the south-eastern edge of the Sali quay, in an area facing the North Industrial Canal. The regeneration programme started by the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority includes its refurbishment and development for port use.
Abandoned since 2000, the area features masonry and concrete buildings from the 1920s, once used by the State Monopolies Agency to store goods.
After cleaning up the area, the project involves the demolition of the existing buildings, the excavation of the yards to an average depth of approximately 60 cm, the construction of pipework for collecting rainwater and fire fighting water and the installation of conduits for future underground utilities. Once that is done, the pavement will be stabilised in situ to build a new port apron with a load carrying capacity of 5 t/sqm. The total cost of the intervention is € 1,800,000.00, fully financed by the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority.
