Poseidon Med II
POSEIDON MED II foresees actions and initiatives towards the adoption of LNG as marine fuel in the East Mediterranean Sea (Greece, Italy and Cyprus).
In the Port of Venice, Rimorchiatori Riuniti Panfido builds the first highly innovative prototype of a bunkering vessel for the transport and bunkering of LNG to ships, in order to complete the LNG supply chain in Venice and the North-Adriatic area. The co-financing concerns the design and construction of this ship prototype called SBBT (Semi Ballastable Barge Transporter).
The North Adriatic Sea Port Authority takes part in the project in compliance with the 2014/94/UE, as adopted by the National strategic framework for the supply of LNG (D.Lgs. 257/2016). This foresees (art. 6) that member states ensure the realization of an adequate number of LNG refueling points in the maritime ports of the TEN-T core network within December 31, 2025. Besides, these activities comply with the National port and logistics plan, that establishes the obligation for the Port Authorities to draft Energy Environmental Plans to realize LNG storage and distribution infrastructures.
