
New Motorways of the Sea Terminal - First wharf operational starting
From Wednesday, June 4th Venice is provided with a new hi-tech Motorways of the Sea Terminal.
On June 4th the intermodal hub in Marghera has hosted the Ro-Pax "Audacia" from Anek Lines at the presence of eminent authorities celebrating the historic passage of the Ro-Pax from Venezia Terminal Passeggeri to a dedicated area of Marghera.
The new Motorways of the Sea Terminal in Venezia/Fusina is one of the most relevant projects in the field of port infrastructures built through Project Financing: 200 million investment (of which 80% by private funds). The project is supported by the Port of Venice and co-financed by the European Union with 12 million Euros thanks to the Adriamos project (TEN-T Program) with the objective of strengthening maritime services and lines between Italy and Greece.


The terminal actually looks beyond, to all European and non-European markets, thanks to its strategic location at the crossroads of three important European Corridors (Scandinavian-Mediterranean, Mediterranean, Baltic-Adriatic), and fosters to get a logistics hub able to support and integrate the new exigencies of commercial transportation by promoting intermodality in the distribution of goods: 2 docks and 4 wharfs capable of hosting at the same time 4 ships and a logistics platform with new buildings and warehouses, port yards and parking for a total area of 36 hectares.
The wharfs on the Malamocco-Marghera Canal will benefit by up to 12 meters depths. Port activities and services for the storage and handling of goods, and commercial and logistics services will be developed within the compendium.
