A green port

Vision and environmental strategy

“Green Port” represents a philosophy that renovates the way of considering the port and that brings into actions a series of real activities and facts. Activities and facts that have been actively promoted by the Venice Port Authority (VPA) and that demonstrate a continuous commitment of VPA for: enhancing air quality, protection of the Venetian Lagoon, requalification of port areas and energetic efficiency.

VPA green strategy aims at constantly improving synergies for port development, both in terms of trades and environment protection.

Environmental Policy

The VPA, following the principles of environmental responsibility and of sustainable development, in 2011 set its own Environmental Policy and started developing its own ISO 14001 environmental management system.

According to its Environmental Policy, VPA is committed to continuously improve the management of its environmental aspects developing a sustainable supply chain, investing in new technologies and enhancing international and national cooperation.
Moreover, VPA aims, on one hand, at preventing and reducing energy and materials consumption, waste production and pollution, on the other hand, at promoting the value of environmental safeguarding among its employees and among companies working in the Port of Venice.

VPA environmental management system, certified in 2012 and confirmed in the last years, represents a practical tool able to monitor the environmental aspects related to port activities, their impacts and the positive effects of the green initiatives.
