The Port of Venice invests on sustainable development

European Projects and environmental Sustainability

Almost a third of the European Projects of the Northern Adriatic Sea Port Authority are strongly devoted to the sustainable development of the ports of Venice and Chioggia.

In the current programming period (2014-2020), 24 projects have been carried out by the port of Venice for a total budget of 129 million euros, co-funded by the European Union with more than 35 million euros.

Included in the Connecting Europe Facility programme, the EALING project concerns measures to electrify port quaysides and brings to 8 the number of projects focusing on environmental sustainability, in keeping with the EU’s Green Deal guidelines.

Among these initiatives, it has to be mentioned the development of the LNG logistics chain that received an overall EU grant of 28 million euros: construction works for the Lng Terminal (VENICE LNG, GAINN4SEA, GAINN IT projects) by the Venice Lng company and the design and construction of the barge prototype for transport and LNG refuelling to ships (POSEIDON MED II) by the company Rimorchiatori Riuniti Panfido.

Moreover, other actions need to be highlighted: the placement of 2 power supply stations for cars in the port area, the updated of the information system for the rail hunting operations (TALKNET); a campaign to monitor noise pollution, also through the purchase and positioning of noise detection units (CLEANBERTH); the purchase of electric cars and the renovation of lighting systems with LED in S. Marta, S. Andrea and S. Basilio port areas (SUSPORTS); the "energy diagnosis" of buildings, studies supporting the Energy Planning Document- Environmental of the Port System and the Action Plan to improve the energy efficiency and sustainability of the port of Venice (SUPAIR).
