The Port of Venice celebrates the Day of the Seafarer with a meeting between Port Institutions and port operators to take stock of what can still be done to improve the well-being of seafarers within ports.
The theme of this year's Day of the Seafarer is indeed their "well-being", in particular from the psychological point of view given the high level of stress to which the crews are subjected facing very critical moments in adversity and far away from home for a very long time.
The Port Community together with the Coast Guard have discussed  the new tools that can be developed in addition to the assistance already provided by the two historical associations that, under different profiles, take care of the needs of seafarers in the port of Venice, namely Stella Maris' Friends and Mariport.
Finally, the meeting was the perfect occasion to award the honorary recognition for long sailing Marco Lazzaro, seafarer of the tug service operating in the Port of Venice.

The Day of the Seafarer was established with a resolution adopted by the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila to raise awareness about the contribution of seafarers from around the world to international trade, global economy and the community as a whole .
