Channeling the Green Deal for Venice

“Channeling the Green Deal for Venice" is a Connecting Europe Facility  European funded project (2020-2023) that tackles the limited nautical accessibility of the ports of Venice and Chioggia, fully respecting the environment and the Venice  Lagoon.

Innovative scientific approach will find concrete multi-faceted solutions, addressing both the structural point of view and the dredging and maintenance managerial perspective for the regulation of nautical traffic and sediments’ flows, improving the sustainability of the navigation in the Malamocco-Marghera main canal.

The Port Network Authority of the Northern Adriatic Sea has a total budget of 1.7 million euros at its disposal, 50% co-funded by European Union funds to evaluate, in relation to the maritime traffic, the hydrodynamic impact on the Malamocco-Marghera Canal and the neighboring strips, triggered by the transit of ships along the canal itself. Due to this monitoring, interventions must be identified to be carried out along both the canal and the surrounding areas, in order to stem the frequent corrosion of the canals.

This action can also introduce new management models to regulate traffic. Each solution identified will then be verified, as part of the project, and constantly monitored, always safeguarding the best possible nautical accessibility and the environment.
