2017 Day of the Seafarer
The 25th day of June of every year, since 2010, IMO celebrates the Day of the Seafarer and this year the theme is “Seafarers Matter”, to recognise the unique contribution made by seafarers to the world trade and civil society as a whole.
North Adriatic Sea Port Authority, in collaboration with the Association Stella Maris’ Friends, joins the initiative by organising a special ship visiting activity, that for the first time will involve the top managers of the authority, unusual not just for Venice but also for ports in general.
Ship visiting is an activity carried out by the associations in charge of seafarers’ welfare, and in particular Stella Maris’ Friends practices it regularly, it consists in going on board of ships (especially cargo ships of Porto Marghera) moored in the port, to welcome the crew and illustrate the services offered by the Association (Seamen’s Club at the Cruise Terminal, internet service, sale of phone cards, transfer services …).
On the 23rd June Stella Maris’ Friends taked the President of Port Authority and a delegation of HarbourMaster on board of a cargo ships for a meeting with the captain, the officers and the crew.
